Maximum Protection, Minimal False Alarms — Optex REDSCAN Laser Sensors

Maximum Protection, Minimal False Alarms — Optex REDSCAN Laser Sensors

OPTEX was a pioneer in laser-based detectors, launching its first REDSCAN sensor over a decade ago. Since then, the company has continuously developed and perfected the technology, now offering the latest security-optimized LiDAR devices. These come with various features that ensure and simplify proper installation and configuration while guaranteeing high accuracy.

Long range and coverage

The Optex REDSCAN RLS-50100V and RLS-3060V sensors are designed for large-area protection. The RLS-50100V model has a range of 100 x 50 meters, while the RLS-3060V covers 60 x 30 meters. The REDSCAN mini-Pro RLS-2020V offers a 20 x 20-meter detection range. The coverage area can include multiple independent detection zones, allowing for the creation of areas with different risk levels. Detection can be configured in horizontal or vertical planes, providing flexibility in system design.

Innovative detection capabilities

The sensors can recognize the size and speed of objects, allowing them to accurately filter potential threats. Their high level of precision enhances security, as LiDAR technology is known for its near-flawless accuracy. False alarms are minimal and can usually be traced back to actual environmental disturbances.

Advanced environmental adaptation

The sensors feature an automatic learning function that adapts to changing conditions, such as accumulating leaves, snow, or sand. Their stability remains uncompromised even in challenging environments like fog or heavy snowfall. The REDSCAN Pro series is designed to withstand the harshest weather conditions, operating reliably in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 60°C.

Panoramic camera and event log

The REDSCAN Pro series features a panoramic camera that displays the monitored area and stores images alongside alarm events in the event log. This allows for identifying the causes of alarms and refining the configuration. The REDSCAN cameras can also be integrated into a video recorder using the ONVIF protocol, providing additional security and convenience.

Versatile installation options

The built-in camera module includes a red line indicating the detection field’s position, enabling easy initial setup. For fine-tuning, the LAC-1 (Laser Area Checker) calibration unit can be used.

The integrated camera is also useful for troubleshooting installation errors. REDSCAN sensors can be mounted on walls, ceilings, or poles—ensuring a clear line of sight to the protected area is key.

For perimeter protection, the RLS-3060 and RLS-50100 models—both offering a 190-degree field of view — should ideally be installed at the center of the protected section, facing downward. This ensures symmetrical coverage in both directions, maximizing the sensor’s detection range. In contrast, the RLS-2020 series should be placed at the end of the fence section, as these models have a 95-degree field of view.

User Interface and zones

REDSCAN Pro detectors can be installed for both indoor and outdoor applications. The user interface features a Home Map function, which visualizes the detection area and allows switching between the map and camera view. A real-time status window is also available to display the sensor's current state. REDSCAN supports the configuration of up to eight independent zones, with detection criteria adjustable either globally or per zone.

Reliable alarms and error notifications

The sensor detects moving objects or object presence, with adjustable filters for minimum target size, sensitivity, movement distance, and tracking size. Error notifications are triggered in case of masking, sensor misalignment, or lens contamination.

Perimeter protection applications

REDSCAN Pro and REDSCAN mini-Pro sensors are particularly well-suited for perimeter security and applications where large, continuous surfaces need protection. These include office building facades, flat rooftops, and even solar farms.

The combination of long-range detection and high accuracy makes REDSCAN an exceptionally sophisticated tool. Alarm signals from individual zones and various error notifications can be linked to output terminals, ONVIF digital inputs, or ONVIF motion alarms, enabling seamless integration with other systems and automated responses. Two detection profiles can be defined, and specific zone events can be used to switch between profiles, offering a high level of flexibility.

Don’t limit your complete security options!

Need to allow passage through the protected area without triggering an alarm? No problem—specific sections can be excluded from detection, such as a gate in a fence or an opening in a gallery wall. These adjustments are managed via software, allowing for precise customization of the detection pattern.

REDSCAN Pro LiDAR sensors offer unmatched versatility, ranking among the top-tier solutions in the industry. They are robust enough to handle the stringent requirements of military and government security projects.

Easy setup and technical information

The configuration process is straightforward and can be completed via a web-based interface. The installer dashboard is intuitive and logically structured, ensuring easy parameter adjustments despite the sensor’s extensive feature set.
Power supply options include 24V DC or standard PoE.

To further simplify installation and setup, OPTEX has released a series of instructional videos.
