The Global Fire Equipment (GFE) has introduced OWL, an advanced "plug and play" fire alarm management and monitoring software for the CHAMELEON Network intelligent hubs.
Thanks to its high-quality graphical user interface, OWL users can track the status of their fire alarm panels. Additionally, they can receive real-time information and an overview of their entire fire alarm system (FDAS).
Global Fire OWL: Flexible, intelligent, and effortless integration
The intuitive, user-friendly, and extremely easy-to-setup and operate OWL is the ideal solution for facilities of all sizes and types. From single-panel systems to multi-panel and multi-site applications, supporting up to 64 systems, it covers everything. For systems assembled within the same CHAMELEON network, all that’s needed to integrate with OWL is to install a gfINT-TCPIP-V2 communication module next to an OCTO+ panel. Then, the IP address and operating mode can be configured through its own web interface. It is important that the device has at least firmware version 6.2!
In 3 simple steps, customers can import their configuration files from the panel into the monitoring software using OWL:
Step 1: Export the configuration files from the fire alarm panel to a PC. It is recommended to use at least CHAMELEON Connector 1.4.3, which allows you to extract the “gfl” backup file of the panel or system configuration from your panel/CHAMELEON network.
Step 2: Import the configuration files from the PC into the OWL software. After completing the software registration, add the panel equipped with the gfINT-TCPIP-V2 interface.
Step 3: Commission the system with a simple "click, drag, and drop."
Global accessibility and secure operation
OWL is fully compatible with the GFE CHAMELEON Network series of intelligent control panels: G-ONE, GEKKO, OCTO+, NODE+. As a PC-based platform, OWL can be accessed simultaneously from different PCs, wherever they are in the world—provided they are on the same network. Backups can be made of the software in case of a main PC failure, and the customer’s configuration file can also be restored. It is important to note that after installing the latest OWL version, prior to licensing, a 1-month free licence is available—thanks to the Global Fire team. The free licence can be tested in a single-panel environment before purchasing and registering the full version, supporting up to 64 panels.
User-friendly and intuitive control
OWL features an elegant and easy-to-use graphical user interface that displays all system devices, alarm events, and panel status information. The graphics and icons are arranged in a simple and logical manner, with the help of a floor plan, allowing users to quickly identify fire alarms and faults in real time and respond swiftly.
Each panel can be displayed on the screen as if the operator were standing in front of it, and basic commands such as "activate sounders," "mute sounders," "disable controls," and "reset system" can be intuitively performed from the software’s main menu. The simple control buttons allow the user to enable and disable field devices, and analog values from all field devices can be queried by selecting a menu.
Complete Transparency and Secure Management
The OWL software records every alarm, fault, user access, and interaction on the FDAS, ensuring full transparency of the system. The affected area of the building is highlighted, and icons indicate the exact location of the alarm event or fault. All system interactions are logged, and the log can be exported if needed, for example, to provide the insurance company with the alarm log in case of a fire or to offer the fire department the fire detection log for weekly fire inspections.
The OWL software features two levels of control: administrator and operator. Up to four administrators can have full access, and they can make changes to the system's cause-and-effect configuration using the software. Administrator programming is password-protected. An unlimited number of users can be given operator access and receive notifications via email or SMS—or both. After defining the users, each user can be assigned specific instructions.
Easy to Install and Test Solution
In summary, OWL fills a gap in the global market, being a user-friendly alarm management and monitoring software that is easy to install, connect, and operate!
To make the testing process even easier, Global Fire offers a free OWL licence with every Octo+ panel. By purchasing the OCTO+ 0-1-2-3-4 Loops 0-1-2-3-4, the single-panel licence is free (upon request) and always comes with an online licence. The request can be made when ordering the central panel or later by sending the central panel's JOB number and serial number.
The free licence applies to standalone panels, not networked ones. The OWL software has been available since the end of 2021, but the free licence for individual Octo+ panels (0-4 loops) was released in March 2022. Unfortunately, we cannot provide a free licence for older, existing panel stock.
