What is gemino IoT and why should you choose it?
The Ksenia gemino IoT module is designed to expand the communication capabilities of the lares 4.0 platform. Its purpose is to ensure comprehensive communication, whether for remote monitoring reports or enabling app access. The gemino IoT supports both GSM and 4G networks, allowing you to choose the most suitable connection method based on your current needs.
The primary goal is to establish an internet connection using a 4G network. The gemino IoT can share the SIM card's data connection with other devices through its built-in LAN port, meaning the connection isn't limited to the lares control panel. By adding a switch, other devices can also be connected to the internet, as the gemino IoT functions as a router. However, under normal circumstances, the module connects to the same network as the system and serves as a backup. This means that communication primarily takes place over a wired internet connection, and the gemino IoT steps in only in case of failure. This concept significantly enhances the reliability of the connection.
What advantages does this communicator offer us?
It provides an uninterrupted internet connection, with full monitoring ensured by Ksenia's infrastructure. This includes constant supervision of the connection, meaning if the connection between the gemino IoT and the server is lost, the server immediately sends a notification via push message.
Installation of the Switch 4.0 Accessory
As an addition to the gemino IoT, it is advisable to consider the installation of the Switch 4.0, which ensures network distribution among clients within the Ksenia architecture. One of its advantages is that, similar to the gemino IoT, it uses the central unit's power supply, allowing for uninterrupted operation without additional devices. Of the four ports on the switch, one is PoE-capable, meaning it scales the central unit's 15-volt output voltage to the standard 48-volt PoE voltage.
This is significant regarding the gemino IoT because the communicator can be powered from the central unit's power output, but it can also operate through PoE power via its LAN port. Thus, the Switch 4.0 can also serve as the power supply for the gemino IoT.
Using these two devices together is space-saving, practical, and, not least, an elegant solution.
In terms of its usage, the Ksenia 4G communicator provides the following services:
- Application access for the lares 4.0 and Ksenia Pro applications
- Backup internet connection in case of wired service failure
- Standalone router mode for sharing the 4G network
- Remote access for management/programming via computer
- IP reporting for remote monitoring on the universal SIA DC-09 platform
- GSM-based remote monitoring reporting in Contact-ID format
- Customer notifications via push messages, e-mail, and SMS
As an IP peripheral, the gemino IoT is not limited by potential technical restrictions due to the length of bus cables, allowing it to be positioned farther from the control panel. This enables us to find the most suitable location for installation in terms of signal strength. As a result, the placement of the lares 4.0 control panel is not dependent on an ideally positioned signal strength. It can optionally be supplemented with an external antenna. The gemino IoT (together with the Switch 4.0) provides a perfect solution for establishing a stable internet connection, whether as a backup or a primary solution.
